Friends, it's been a bit. And to be honest the idea of jumping into a new build is daunting! This is probably why I've put off setting an appointment with a builder for so long.
In September I was all set to meet with a builder I had researched, and I really admire their work. They create the sort of style I am looking for in our little A-frame to be. Just as I was about to dive into this, our family was on the receiving end of job-related struggles. When you lose almost 75% of your income overnight, it's not the best decision to jump into an expensive endeavor without having a plan! Long story short: this worry lasted only about two weeks, and we are back and better than ever, ready to create our little home away from home.
I've now jumped fully into planning mode. I have an appointment on January 9th to meet at our land site and discuss which end of the property I'd like the cabin on (the 10 acres is a long rectangle, and maybe someday I will put one or two more on there!) We will go over specifics such as square footage, layout, materials, and how many windows I want (hint, a LOT.) And with any luck, we will have a solid date for breaking ground. I've also chosen an interior designer to facilitate everything that will make the cabin even more beautiful. She shares my style and love for vintage but understated luxury, lots of cozy accents, and a clean and inviting space. I can't wait to introduce her here and share her insights and plans.
In hindsight, an appointment to go over ideas doesn't cost anything other than time, and I could have continued with the conversation during this period. But I wanted to make sure we were more than ready mentally and financially to start this project I have dreamed about for years.
